Botox is a neuromodulator, meaning it works by relaxing certain muscles in the face. By relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles when they contract, Botox can help patients achieve smoother skin. When patients undergo regular treatments, Botox can prevent certain wrinkles from worsening or new ones from forming.
Botox is often used to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, and the glabellar lines (the ’11’ lines in between the brows).
Botox lasts about 3-4 months before patients are recommended for reinjection.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers work differently from neuromodulators like Botox. Instead of relaxing muscles, these injectables add volume in key facial areas. A popular type of dermal filler is formulated from hyaluronic acid (HA); HA fillers bind to water molecules in the skin, providing stunning, natural-looking volume.
Dermal fillers are often used to treat facial volume loss in the cheeks and midface, or to fill under-eye hollows. They can also effectively plump the lips.
Patients can experience results that last anywhere from 6-12 months to 2 years, depending on the type of filler received.
