Blepharoplasty Q&A

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is surgery to correct the droopy or baggy appearance of the upper or lower eyelids. In these procedures, Dr. Cristel expertly removes loose skin, fat, and tightens the eyelids to refresh and revitalize the eye area with natural results.

Does blepharoplasty treat both the upper and lower eyelids?

The two types of blepharoplasty each address one set of eyelids. They are:

Upper blepharoplasty

In upper blepharoplasty, your surgeon makes incisions along the natural creases in your upper eyelids. They remove skin and fat through these incisions. Thanks to the deft incision placement, any scarring is nearly invisible.

Lower blepharoplasty

In lower blepharoplasty, your surgeon creates an inconspicuous incision within the inner eyelid, so there are no external incisions or scars. The excess fat is removed or repositioned to create a smoother and refreshed lower eyelid.

You can also have both procedures at once. In addition, your surgeon can perform adjunctive procedures such as a  brow lift or laser resurfacing in the eyelid region to enhance the results of your eyelid surgery and provide an ideal overall result.

Is blepharoplasty right for me?

If you have saggy or baggy eyelids and want a long-lasting solution, blepharoplasty could be right for you. There are two main reasons patients have this surgery, including:

Functional reasons

Drooping upper eyelids may make it hard to fully open your eyes, read, or drive. Upper blepharoplasty can lift, trim, and tighten the sagging lids so you can see optimally again.

Cosmetic reasons

Saggy or baggy upper or lower eyelids may give you a constantly-sleepy appearance and can make you look years older than you feel. These cosmetic concerns are the most common reasons to choose upper eyelid surgery today. Upper and lower blepharoplasty can tighten and firm the eye area, make your eyes look larger, and help you feel more confident.

Dr. Cristel provides a comprehensive evaluation, considering your personal treatment goals, medical history, eyesight, tear production, and many other factors to help you decide if blepharoplasty is the best way to get your ideal results.

Upper and lower blepharoplasty are performed under general anesthesia and take about 1 hour each. In select patients, the upper blepharoplasty may be performed under local anesthesia.

The eyes are the focal point of the face, and blepharoplasty can help you feel confident about the way they look. To learn more, click the online scheduler or call the Synergi Facial Surgery office.
